Number 7 is a basic home from the mid 70’s, with no insulation and single glazing the first priority was to make it livable by making it warm. The exterior walls were all fully insulated from the inside, insulation was added under the floor and more to the ceiling void, as well as double glazing throughout. The kitchen and bathroom were both replaced and simplified to maximise the space available. Later the storage/ laundry room under the house has been divided and reacquistioned into a smaller functional laundry and a fourth bedroom / snug / office space. Although small in plan the new space flows out into the old carport which has been closed off to the street offering an enclosed protected courtyard and garden, making this little room feel secure from the street and expansive in terms of its use. From the dungeon it has become desirable and delightful. Meanwhile the garden wall closing off the carport has added strength to the elevation bringing beauty and balance to the street elevation. A small house and space totally transformed.
